Info needed about flex watt heat tape

is this stuff safe to use in a wood enclosure or should i insulate it against the wood and where could i use it in the snake tank so it does not burn the snake. i would be using it in combination with a thermostat not a rheostat so i could get the automatic night drop

  1. You don't need to insulate the heat tape against the wood but you do need to secure it down with tape or glue so the animal doesn't get under it. If you use tape, make sure none of the sticky side is exposed, the sticky side could get stuck on your snake and injure it when you take it off. You'll also need to seal the connection with electrical tape or silicone to make it water proof.

    Placement: secure the mat directly to the wood on one side of the tank and put the substrate on top of that. If you're using a good thermostat you won't have to worry about the snake burning itself.

  2. probably should use a heating lamp, depending on the thickness of the wood you might not get enough heat in there, and if you do use it put it under the enclosure Just make sure there is sufficient airflow under the enclosure to prevent heat from building up and causing a failure.
