Info on 1974 115 hp johnson

are the 1974 johnson 115 hp motors worth a hoot?

well built? I heard the old 70's are bulletproof

V4 crossflow -- if compression is in the neighborhood of 120 and all within 10 psi, should be worth $500 easy.

Parts are available, easy enough to work on -- fixed jet carbs, magneto-driven electronic ignition.

have to disagree with pugsley.

A little bit of preventive maintenance, take her out and run her hard every 3-4 weeks, fix what breaks, give her fresh gas and don't forget the oil, she'll still be running when we're dead & gone.

I run a '79 3-cyl, it's a looper but otherwise the same basic technology, runs as good today as the day it was made.

I have a 1967 Johnson 80 hp utility. (pale gray)     I was going to rebuild her just to freshen her up, but the only thing that I found to do was give her a fresh coat of paint. I felt that I had to give her something for all the years of flawless service that she has provided me, so I bumped her up to a 100 hp with carbs and head caps. Show me an outboard today that will last for 41 years with no problems. It has no oil injectors to fail in the middle of a fun day on the drink. It runs smooth, flawless and quiet and it has the power to push my Chrysler Charger S.E. with my family on board and in tow. Bullet proof? I have had no reason to shoot mine, but I will give it a pat on the engine cover and a thank you every now and then.LOL. Happy Boating

it would make a good sea anchor or a man made reef  gezz 1974 if it was only used by a little old lady to go to church!!!!! i had one in 1975-till 1980 good motor then but a major gas guzeler dave its engine mounts drive shaft mountswould all be shot electrolosis can have eaten away metal parts check the zinc anode for wear would not touch it with a barge poll
