  1. A link farm is any group of web sites that all hyperlink to every other page in the group. Although some link farms can be created by hand, most are created through automated programs and services. A link farm is a form of spamming the index of a search engine (sometimes called spamdexing or spamexing). Other link exchange systems are designed to allow individual websites to selectively exchange links with other relevant websites and are not considered a form of spamdexing.

  2. Link farms are websites that sell or exchange text links on their pages and the pages of other similar sites. that is all they do, they have no valuable content.

They do this because links are valuable to your search engine ranking. However, most websites of this nature have been identified by the search engines as places where people just pay to get links and so do not pass any real value.

    Don't use them.
