Heading to Curacao for 2 weeks in April. Need tips on restaurants, diving, places not to be missed, etc. Tips on anything related to Curacao would be appreciated. Also, I have read the islands have a high crime rate...any problems in Curacao?

    Places not to be missed

of course, the downtown area of Punda and Otrabanda

    Kura Hulanda Hotel and Museum

    Curacao Sea Aquarium

    Ostrich Farm

    Cristoffel Park

    Parke Shete Boka

    Hato Caves

    Marco's Fish Farm

    Jan Thiel Beach

Kas di Alma Blou (local art and gifts)

As many beaches as you possibly can

The crime rate in Curacao is not abnormally high or anything. Just like everywhere else you travel, so just take the usual precautions. Don't travel to isolated places, at night, listen to advice from hotel employees as to where not to go, be mindful of your possessions>> don't leave stuff in plain sight, cause just like everywhere, it might vanish<<.

If you keep those simple rules in mind, trust me, you will be fine.

    Have fun

  2. i love curacao you must go and enjoy your trip

  3. I went there and he island is so small i felt like i was suffocating........its too small........you can walk everywhere, nowhere to drive and explore...........maybe cause im a nature lover...............

  4. Here is an excellent site to do some research.

    http://www.curacao.com/

lots of tips on dive and snorkel sites. Your hotel or locals can suggest the best places. Don't know your level of diving and comfort zone.

Once you get to the airport, they give out a bag filled with travel info. The restaurant guide is very helpful.

Some restaurants not to be missed

    de Gouveneur

le Bistro Clochard (on the water)

    Astrolabe (Hotel Kura Hulanda)

    Hooks Hut at the Hilton

Go to the Ostrich Farm and the Sea Aquarium. Do a sea lion snorkel and encounter.

Go to Punda and check out the floating market. Ships from Venezuela come and sell fruits and vegetables.

Crime is a problem all over the world but take some simple precautions and you feel and be very safe. Here is a link to some great advice, I couldn't say it any better.

enjoy and good luck. Two weeks you will be able to do alot)

  5. There's always something new and exciting at Avalon. Young, enthusiastic chefs bring you flavors from around the world and give a modern twist to local ingredients. Martini's are a specialty at the bar and the wine list is one of the best on the island.

Amstel beer brewery and Curacao liquor distillery

is open for tours and sampling.

    Double Reef & Superior Producer

In Otrobanda take the road, which leads straight to the megapier. Directly ahead you will find the Double Reef.

The Superior Producer site is in the top 10 on Curaçao and one of the finest wrecks in the Caribbean. The ship is upright, with her wheelhouse at 24 m (80 ft), and her hull rests in over 30 m (100 ft). The site can be accessed by shore or boat, and the entry is near the Holiday Beach Hotel. Look for grouper, barracuda, coral and anemones.

The beach of Sunset Waters Resort offers full facilities, including a dive shop and a resort on the cliffs above where you can stop in for lunch or even stay a night or two. There are several dive sites you can reach from shore and many sites nearby which can be reached by boat. Straight out from the breakwaters there is a marking buoy, which identifies the site of the remains of an airplane, hence the name Airplane Wreck.

    Klein Curaçao

Divers, snorkelers and sun lovers who have always dreamed about being marooned on an uninhabited, desert-island will really enjoy the day trip dive operators and boat charters offer to Klein Curaçao. This tiny, rugged, desolate island of volcanic rock is located off the southeast coast of Curaçao—about one-and-a-half hours by boat.

Curacao Underwater Park is a 12 1/2 mile coral

reef, perfect for diving and snorkeling, plus

    38 beaches for swimming.

Didn't find much on the crime rate....in my opinion that must be a good thing. A good idea is to stick close to resort/hotel areas and guided tours to best avoid crime.

    Have a WONDERFUL time!!!!!!
