  1. If you're an American or from a highly developed country other than the UK (which has special tax advantages) it's not so good.

Hours are 10+ hours a day, 7 days a week.  You'd almost certainly share a cabin with at least one other person.

If you still want to apply, do so directly at:

  2. i would guess it would be nice.

its a good job for someone who likes change.

i don't know how well it pays but its a job more for the experience.

the hours depend on the job you have, you're not going to be going off ship during ports of call, you still have to be on the ship.

i don't know what the rooms are like, and try contacting cruise ships via email by their website.

but i do know that most ships prefer immigrants from poorer places verses american. one because they can pay them less, two because for the most part people think they are more friendly and polite.

also you stay on the ship for a few monthes, its not a weekly job. you usually sign a contract saying you'll work on the sign for 4-5 monthes, more or less depending on the ship

  3. Hi, several options for you...

it's a lot more difficult to get jobs directly from the cruise lines, usually it has to be personal interviews and that takes forever to be scheduled. I've waited about a year for my first postions as a purser with Carnival,.

A good way to get in quicker are the concessions.

Concessions run services on some 90% of all ships.

They run the shops, spas, casinos (some), photo dept, excursions (some).

The advantages are: you are staff, not crew, that means better deck privileges, better cabins, better onboard status (may seem silly, but it isn't). Tou will be able to use passenger bars, self services (sometimes), disco, you will have a cabin steward, laundry etc.

You will not pay taxes since you will be registered in some tax shelter, which does not happen with Carnival or Royal or the major lines.

Other plus are the hours. I'd recomend the shops, I've worked for the 2 major shop concessions after I left Carnival and the work hours are not much and the pay can be very good (depends on the destination, the nationality of the passengers, the ships etc...).

The shops don't open while the ship is docked, so you get your port days off, the seadays you work some 12 hours with 2, 1 hour breaks. But on seadays everybody works a lot.

From the shops, or any concession, after you are there it's easier to move into the cruise lines,  after your contract is over. Port days you work from 6pm till midning or 11pm.

It's really easy to sell cheap stuff (duty free) to people who are already in a buying mood... vacation etc.

here are some links to the concessions:

    www.hardingbros.co.uk

British, interviews are on the phone, pays in pounds, some 55 ships... the work place is a lot more friendly than the option, which is:

    www.starboardcruise.com

pays less, has more ships, some 90. Also they are bigger ships (carnival, royal, costa...)

    work place is terrible.

The commision is individual (with Hardings it's a team commision). People hate each other and they incourage sales reps to denounce  one another).

But the ships are bigger, teams are bigger.

Hardings has the high end ships, like Silverseas, Cunnard, etc... also some really bottom of the barell ones... Island Cruises etc...

    the photo department:

    http://www.transoceanphotos.com/

there are others, but thats the one I know

no experience required, but the hours are longer and you make less money.

I've got a Casino one as well, but can't find it... but you need experience for that.

I did it for 10 years and it's a lot of fun, not to mention all the travelling.... sharing a cabin is a pain, but as a manager I didn't have to... and its also very much about who your cabin mate is.

Another plus is that even though your BOSS is the captain, bellow him the hotel director, they pretty much leave you alone if you are concessions and your actual boss (shop manager) is usually younger and nicer even.

good luck and if you want more info email me..

    sorry typping, broken finger
