  1. Well, the first thing you will need to do is find out the legal requirements of your state.  You can do that at http://www.HSLDA.org

After that, I suggest finding a homeschool support group in your area.  There may be some listed at the site above, or you can try http://groups.yahoo.com and type in "MyCity homeschool".  These support groups will be your best resource-not only do they get together for field trips, coop classes, and the like but the other parents can let you in on all of the things they have already learned, sources they have found, etc.

I would suggest not buying a curriculum right away.   You can supplement with various material while you discover your child's learning style and find a curriculum that will meet his/her needs.  Ask the other parents in the support group if you have glance through their material, if they have any catalogs they do not need, etc.  Go to all of the suppliers websites you hear about and request their free catalogs and any other free materials.  All of this will help you see your options and find what will work best for you.  I also recommend the Rainbow Resource catalog...I think their website is a simple .com after the name.  The catalog is as big as a phone book and has a variety of material with notes on it.

Be open to change.  I know that how we homeschool now is a lot different than it was when we started out, in fact it is very similar to what I used to say we would never do.  Also, realize that you are going to have good days and bad days.  Let things evolve naturally.

    I wish you the best!
