Ok, I've been to Italy once before and loved it. Next summer I am going there to live for a year to study (so it will be legal). I found out everything I can about how to go about this and about the Italian culture and everything and I think I'm pretty well prepared. However, I want to know about the not so obvious stuff....stuff that you've experienced while there. Any info would be much appreciated, thanks!

  1. Don't make American friends and don't let people speak English to you.  Even if it's more difficult for you and them, insist on speaking Italian.  People won't necessarily make serious plans with you, so don't just say "let's get together sometime" and then never do it, but instead actually go out and do it.  Make your year happy for you.  Get a romantic love interest who is Italian, which will provide you incentive to learn the language and will help you meet lots of people.

  2. Make some Italian friends. Try to learn the language before you leave. Try a personals ad or an Italian chat room or something.

  3. be friendly with the other students and make lots of friends.

start speaking italian (badly :-) but do it)

visit lots of towns with your friends because that is an opportunity once ina life time to see a country. here's an example of some beauties in rome : http://www.travelmanual.info/visiting-ro...

last one : get back with us :) and tell how it was ...
