According to family stories, relatives in ME kept snakes in cages and performed ceremonies w/snakes. Eva told family she was 4/4 Blackfeet. Would like to communicate with ancestors re: the Blackfeet part of her life. My mom remembers the snakes in cages on one side of the driveway and home located across the drive from them.

    www.ancestry.com--Native American databases:

Dawes Commission Index, 1896: " Your Search for Eva Judkins returned no matches" (of course the Dawes Commission was only for the 5 Civilized Tribes of Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Seminole, and Creek)

Census of the Blackfeet, Montana, 1897-1898:  "Your Search for Eva Judkins returned no matches" ; "Your Search for Judkins returned no matches"

    www.ancestry.com--1880 census

NOTE: On original view, on column 4 it states "Race or Color" under "Personal Description" and then lists W (White); MU (Mulatto); B (Black); C (Chinese), or I (Indian).  Harvey and family are listed on lines 1-9, and ALL are marked W.

(Like I put in my other answer, the Blackfeet/Blackfoot Indians

--official site is http://www.blackfeetnation.com--live in the northwestern part of Montana that includes most of Glacier County. On the north it borders the Canadian Province of Alberta Canada. The Blackfeet Nation, traveled by Lewis & Clark in July 1806, inhabits 1.5 million acres in northwestern Montana and is part of the Blackfoot Confederacy. Our land borders Glacier National Park and rises from the austere prairie to towering mountains, the northern edge of the Rocky Mountain Front.

    www.ancestry.com--1930 United States Federal Census

    Name: Frank H Judkins

Home in 1930: Fromberg, Carbon, Montana

    Age: 62

    Estimated Birth Year: abt 1868

    Birthplace: Maine

Relation to Head of House: Head

(He is the only Judkins I could find that was born in the East and ended up in Montana, where the Blackfoot Reservation is).

    http://www.native-languages.org/vermont....

The original Native American inhabitants of the area that is now Vermont included:

** The Abenaki tribe--includes Penobscot Indians; Abenaki bands in the United States include the Sokoki and Mazipskwik Abenakis of Vermont.

          The Mohican tribe

The Massachusett tribes (Pennacook and Pocomtuc)

    Indian tribes of Maine--

    The Maliseet tribe

    The Passamaquoddy tribe

    **The Abenaki tribe

    **The Penobscot Indians

    The Micmac tribe

The original inhabitants of the area that is now MONTANA included--

    The Assiniboine tribe

    **The Blackfeet tribe

    The Crow tribe

    The Gros Ventre tribe

    The Kootenai tribe

    The Salish tribe

    The Sioux tribe

    The Shoshoni tribe

Indian tribes driven into Montana after Europeans arrived included:  The Cheyenne tribe

Address for a Federally Recognized tribe in Montana:

    Blackfeet Nation:

    PO Box 850

    Browning, MT 59417

    http://www.blackfeetnation.com

On a Yahoo search, these are the only headings for "Indian snake dance" listed--"hopi indian snake dance, pueblo indian snake dance, south indian snake dance, indian snake dance costume, indian snake dance music, indian snake dance song, asian indian snake dance, the hopi indian snake dance"

(The Hopi and Pueblo Indian tribes are in the Southwest in New Mexico (The Pueblo tribes), and Arizona (Hopi Indians).

(So, I still think if Eva and family WERE full-blood Native American, and lived in Vermont/Maine areas, they would have to have been Penobscot, and NOT Blackfeet--since the latter have always been in MONTANA.)

(PS--Snakes in cages could have gotten loose. Must have kept them in covered baskets or something).
