I want to learn more about the Bani Al-Marjeh family. For those who do not speak arabic Bani means tribe and Al-Marjeh is the name of the tribe. So its tribe of Al-Marjeh. Since I am from that family I want to learn about my ancestors. All I know about the history of my family is that we owned a major sqaure in Downtown Damascus, Syria. And the government bought the land from us but kept the name the same. Anyone if someone has one of those ancestor account could you please look it up. By the way my last name is spelled in so many different ways when translated to english.

Banyelmarjeh. Banialmarja, Banielmarja, Banialmarjeh, Banielmarjeh. There are whole variety of spellings but they sound the same when you pronounce it. If you like here is the link of the sqaure: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marjeh_Square

  1. There is a program that you can buy and install on your computer from most libraries which is called `Roots`, and comes with a complete owners manual which guides you through all the steps on how to use the massive database of most of the family trees in the world. My father once used it and we are by no means a very well known family, but even so loads of information about our ancestors came up and it was a very interesting experience. Below I have put a link to the roots website. It may help, but if it doesn`t you will have to buy the CD. Good luck with it!

  2. Try typing the name(s) into the search engine and then start collecting information from your family.  Full Name, birth date,

    Parents names etc.

You also might want to take a class, or check out family associations.
