  1. Look up Australian War Memorial, for the story about this great man!

  2. Have you tried any of the national archives sites or "how to find a digger" ?

What I know is Simpson was attached to a medical unit as a stretcher bearer  normally 4 to a stretcher but due to the amount of men available only 2 to a stretcher was allowed for the landing on Gallipoli.

A lot of stretcher be ares were wounded or killed and simpson took to caring /helping a lot of them to on his own. The donkey was I believe part of a supply unit and simpson borrowed it to help carry the wounded. He rescued that many that he became the legend of the "man with the donkey" and was well respected by all sadly he was killed by shrapnel but not the donkey.

A statue of him and his donkey stand at the front of the war memorial in canberra with the notation that they couldn't give him the Victoria Cross because there wasn't one noted occasion of heroism there were in fact many

  3. hmmm..from my  knowledge or what i had learnt 3-4 months ago..Simpson was on of the Anzac legends [a hero]. he helped the people who were injured even though he was injured too. simpson would put the bodies on the donkeys back and carry to their allies for help. Simpson dies trying to help someone injured.
