  1. I think it's a great choice. Have you started applying for jobs yet?

Switzerland is a great country to live in. You have more job security here than in the States, you will probably get 5 weeks vacation, and the health system is great. The country is beautiful with all different kinds of landscape. People in general are friendly, honest and very correct/fair. A friend of mine left a bag sitting on the road in Zurich of all places, and three hours later realized he had lost it, called a friend who went out to the street and found it still sitting there!!! That would never happen in the States.

They're not a big fan of foreigners (the word "Ausländer", which is German for foreigner, is like a bad word here) but if you're from a Western European country, the US, Canada, or Australia/New Zealand, you'll be treated with respect. The Swiss Germans tend to be low-key and like to stay in the background. You never have to worry about how to dress here. Also, if you don't speak Swis German, you'll have a hard time making friends among the Swiss Germans but it is nt all that difficult, particularly in bigger cities, because international and progressive Swiss germans do exist. It just takes them a bit of time to open up and warm up to you.

All in all, the Swiss are good people.

  3. I like Switzerland.

Switzerland is small but very different anyway. Just imagine there are four official languages spoken. Most people speak Swiss-German, a strong German dialect, but they understand High-German. In the West they speak French. In Tessin (South) Italian and in the East some people talk Romansh.

It might be difficult to find Swiss friends because they are a bit withdrawn to foreigners. Anyway their are around 20% foreigners in Switzerland.

To avoid isolation it is always a good idea to start learning the native language.

    Good luck
