  2. you know there stressed and sick if their shells are soft, and not hard.   Depending on the turtles land or water, maybe both.  Give your turtles running water like a normal fish tank.  With a filter for healthy fresh water.  Something to rest on like a floating stone, so they can dry off.

  3. h**l's bells! If you mistreated me by pulling me out of my tank whenever you wanted and moved me around like that, I'd be stressed-out too. Turtles do not need a change of scenery.

The turtles should have a tank with plenty of room to swim and a ramp and basking spot. Nothing else for them. To make life easier for you, there should be a filter rated for twice the size of the tank. A basking light and water heater may be necessary.

Once the turtles have gotten over being manhandled and are used to their tank setup, get some small earthworms and present them  as food. Drop one a few inches in front of a swimming turtle, far enough away that it doesn't frighten the turtle. You can also get baitfish to add to the tank. Soft-bodied insects are good too. When you can't get live food, cut liver into strips and dust them with bonemeal.

And keep your hands off your turtles.
