Information about adoption?

I would like to adopt child from either Russia or Asia, but I am not sure how you do this. I know there is a way to adopt the babies before they are born because the parents want to give them up, how does that work? I am very interested in going to the orphanages and the pre-adoption I mentioned earlier. Please give quality answers.

  1. You will need to contact an adoption agency first. There's also a lot of help online on adoption.com.

Just a word on current situation - Russia (and the other eastern European countries) adoptions are difficult at this time and Asia is perhaps your best bet. However, China has new restrictions (e.g. single parents or obese parents or parents with some disability are not allowed to adopt). India (the country I am adopting from) doesn't have such restrictions.

  2. Pre-birth adoptions happen all the time, but they're usually domestic.  If you've got your heart set on a newborn, you should contact a crisis pregnancy center, they almost always have a relationship with an adoption agency nearby that can help you.  Or, put your profile up on parentprofiles.com.

International adoptions typically take longer than nine months to complete, so it's near impossible to get a newborn.  You can definitely get an infant or toddler through international, though.  There are plenty of Asian countries to choose from!

  3. I would suggest contacting a local adoption agency that specializes in international adoption.  They would best be able to help you with your questions because they are familiar with what the different countries and what is available with regards to the types of adoption.

    Good luck to you.

  4. There are no prebirth matches in Russia, nor in China. In fact, I have not heard of prebirth matches in any country other than the US- and even here you cannot actually adopt the child before it is born, only be in contact with the mother considering placing with you.

You can check the legal requirements for each country at the US State Department's website, then look for an agency that works in your chosen country.

  5. I would contact an agency in the area that specializes in international adoption. They can tell you laws and all the info you need to know what is best for you. I think it's awesome you are doing this!! Good luck in your search!

Oh- you can also do a search on international adoption and it will tell you agencies or ways to go about it.

  6. Check out www.adoption.com.

They have boards where you can talk w/ others who are adopting from Russia & Asia.

    Good-Luck :)
