  1. Asperger's syndrome is a developmental disorder. It's a mild form of autism. People with Asperger's syndrome lack social skills, prefer routine and have obsessive interests. They have normal to above average intelligence and normal speech development.

Here are some common symptoms of Asperger's syndrome:

    - Inability to understand body language and facial expressions. Inability to use body language or facial expressions correctly themselves.

    - Lack of eye contact.

    - Inability to understand sarcasm and jokes. Tend to take things literally.

    - Unaware of social norms and unwritten rules.

    - Lack of empathy. Difficulty understanding other people’s feelings. Difficulty expression own feelings.

    - Obsessive interests. May talk about them excessively.

    - Socially awkward. Difficulties making new friends.

    - Sensitive senses (unusual sensitivity to sound, light, touch, taste or smell).

    - Strong attachment to routine. May prefer sameness.

    - Unusual speech patterns with regard to pitch, tone or accents.

    - Poor motor skills.

There are more symptoms, but I think these are most common. The symptoms vary between individuals and not everyone with Asperger’s syndrome has all of those symptoms.

People with Asperger’s syndrome often have some special skills that are uncommon in other people, so there are some positive sides to having Asperger’s syndrome.

The causes of Asperger’s syndrome are not known yet, but it is thought to be genetic. There is no cure for it, but it can be treated through therapy and social skills can be improved through training.
