Information of Costa Rica?

I just booked a trip to Costa Rica in December. I'm going to the Province of Guanacaste near Tamarindo (which to my understanding is a good surfing town). Anyone give me good advice? Greatly appreciated.

  1. have a good time.

  2. I have been to Narsara, which is a bit south of Tamarindo.

I have also been to Pavones, & Jaco/Hermosa.

Costa Rica is a great place. I absolutely love it there... if I am ever rich, I would buy a house there.

You are going in December, which is the tail end of the rainy season. The roads will be horrible. I just got back from Pavones, and the roads were already quite bad. You will fly into San Jose, then I assume you are going to drive or take a bus to Tamarindo. A lot of people say dont drive in Costa Rica... I personally love that part of the "adventure". The roads are scary, the other drivers are crazy, but it is fun. Just be careful... you could come around a corner and there could be a cow or llama in your way, a semi in your lane, or a bridge could be out. There are tons of 1-lane bridges without guard rails, so you just have to take it easy and be careful.

I dont recommend driving at night though... if you get into San Jose late, take a taxi to the Best Western Irazu or Hampton Inn and spend the night there, and you will have the next day to drive.

Tamarindo is a good surf town... but the surf is not too great in December. It gets very hit-or-miss that time of the year. But you will still have fun, and you should still have ridable surf.

Like I said, Costa Rica is a great place. You will have a blast, take a camera, take lots of pictures, be careful, especially in San Jose and other big cities. I recommend you stay out of clubs... if you do venture into any night life, do not look like a tourist, and do not flash your money. The biggest crime problem is theft... but you still have to be careful. An American was killed last month in Jaco, rumor has it he was flashing his money and trying to buy a prostitute.

I have been to Costa Rica several times, and the people are always very nice. I never felt scared for my safety... but I never stuck around San Jose either.

    HAVE FUN!
