Hi, I was thinking of buying this Honda Prelude on Craig's List and I noticed that it had 207,000 miles on it and a friend of mine told me that once Hondas enter that high of mileage that they just go straight down hill from there. Is that true or will the car be fine to buy and run for many more years?

  1. It all depends on its maintenance!  A well cared for, original owner car with tons of receipts would be a fine car even with 207k.  I bought my wife a 94 Accord with 221k miles that had all these advantages - it has been perfect.

A trashed car or no history, I would only buy if you could afford to put a new powertrain in it.  Around $1000 for a JDM imported motor/tranny if it is the base model.  The higher end Prelude motor can be double.

  2. it depends on the condition of the motor...also was it all highway miles or street....my current car has 340,000 miles on it and its the original engine...i got it off the original owner who uses it as a daily driver...and he drives it about 50-60 miles daily....i got it from him when it had a little over 300,000 miles and it hasnt given me any problems besides the usual thermostat and radiator replacement....and those problems could happen to any car at any time...the car still drives fine...engine still running strong...ac still blows cold...and besides its a honda...you could always find a replacement engine for a good price....

  3. ask about the timing belt and water pump maintenance, there is a compression test that can be done to see what kind of shape the engine is in. i have an integra with 260000 on it still running. a basic sight check, look under the oil cap for anything other than oil, if it looks milkey or gray stay away from it...
