It was a place my mother shopped when she lived at 910 8th St. S.E. in Washington D.C. during WW II. I am narrating her 1944 diary in which she mentions this store several times.

  1. Wow what an amazing name she had, Mrs Snuckles that is. Isn't there a family history society for the area, I am sure if there is that's the place to start searching, hope this helps.

  2. Camper:  Since you don't allow email messages it is VERY difficult to contact you with questions that might make all the difference in helping you!  For instance, are you sure of the spelling of the name 'Snuckles'?  Could it actually be 'Snuckle'?  (As in Mrs. Snuckle ' s Grocery Store?)

There isn't a single instance of Snuckle or Snuckles in the entire US census collection!  However, there are 6 'Schnuckle' listings in the SSDI.  Help us help you by telling us what you know as fact vs. what you are assuming or not sure of, and if you can give more info (for instance, the street or address of the store).  Thanks!

Do you know what street/cross street the market was located on?  Do you know if it was a "DGS" store?
