Question:

Information on a bulging disc in the lower back?

After my MRI, I was diagnosed with a bulging disc in my lower back.

I have had pain and numbness in my feet since June.

How long can this take to heal.

The doctor suggested 'traction" to try and stretch my spine and get the disc off the nerve. Does this work?

  1. Yes, it can, if there is really pressure on the nerve.  Have you had a EMG/nerve conduction study?  There are a lot of things that can cause pain and numbness in the feet.  It could be a peripheral neuropathy and have nothing to do with the disc.  Many people have "bulging discs" in the back that don't mean anything.  Frankly I would get a second opinion (from a neurologist). An EMG/NCV can tell you if there is damage to the nerve root (in the spine), the peripheral nerves, or both.

  2. Yes... I have had it done and used to work in a chiropractors office and have seen many great results, including myself!
