Hi, we are taking a cruise this Christmas and are only new at this and have no experiance. The ship is the Princess Dawn departing from Sydney.

We would appreciate any tips / best level to stay on, cabins etc also if you have any complaints / problems, what were they? Any general information would be appreciated.

  1. We have been on that ship, and had a wonderful time. I think you probably don't want to stay on a lower level, the worries of sea sickness increase down there and it tends to be more noisy. You'll hear the crew moving about in the inner staircases, and may even hear the engine. Personally, I don't think it is worth staying in and paying more for a room with a window. I don't spend enough time in my cabin to make the additional costs worthwhile. I'd rather spend the money on a shore excursion. Be sure to try the speciality restaurants! They have wonderful food and after a while the buffets get a bit predictable.

I hope you have a wonderful time.

  2. I have been on 8 cruises with Princess including the Dawn. I would stay in  one of the upper decks. I love balcony's because I love to wake up to looking out to the ocean and also find it fascinating to watch the ship come into port. I have never had one single complaint with Princess, except when we did anytime dining, you sometimes have to wait a little bit for a table and the wait staff does not get to know you. So we went back to traditional dining(1st seating). If you are now living in the US. I would fly to Sidney the day before and stay 1 night there in Sidney. That way you will have no worries getting to the ship on time. We have stayed on decks Baja, caribe, and dolphin. All were great. Also at Christmas the ship is decorated all up. You could even bring a little decoration to put on your door if you want too. We sailed last year from Sidney to LA, 29 days. What a cruise that was.
