  1. The last two posters may have answered your question if you are an American studying in the US for an American glider license.

If you are a Canadian, then you would be better off asking at the nearest flight school.

  2. you'd better have 20/20 vision!

  3. follow your heart.

  4. For study guides, you can't do much better than the two free online publications (PDF format) available here:

    http://www.faa.gov/library/manuals/aircr...

  5. In the usa the "quiet birdmen" have the "young eagles" program. If you can get along with all those "old guys" you will get the best training available.

  6. If you've been through ground school, then you know about the AOPA Airport Directory, and you've seen copies of it lying around.  Get the directory and go through all the airports in your area.  Some will have a notation to the effect that gliders use the airport.  It is usually just a word or two, like "gliders wknds."

Write down the phone numbers of the FBOs at all these airports, and give each one a call.  They can tell you what sort of glider activities occur at their airport, and they can line you up for instruction if available.

You can also try an internet search on "glider instruction," and add the name of your state or metropolitan area.

    Good luck!
