  1. http://www.hstreasures.com/a-squared.htm...

Check this site out.  The price is well worth the value.  It can be a foundation that you can add to, if nothing else.   Free information on what you should teach, and cheap to purchase the program.

If you just want to know the state standards, go to the department of education for you state and do some searching.  In CA you can print off all of the standards by grade level and subject and go from there on how you wish to teach them to your child/children.  Just in case you need it, the CA site is http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/  There are other sites online that you can get a condensed version of grade level standards also, just have to search for them, try a charter school's links.  Google charter schools first then search their site for the links or files you need.

  3. With the number of websites available online, you can use the Internet for free.

What you want to be careful about it overusing the Internet.  There is a big, wide world out there.  Don't spend too much time in front of the computer.

  4. There are some virtual schools available online that are totally free. Some are actual public charter schools where they will mail you all the materials and supplies but then they set up your curriculum for the year. You get all the flexibility of homeschooling but do not pick your own books.

Virtual online schools tend to be programs already set up for the kids to school online. Some are free, some are not. But none that I have seen are totally homeschooled. I say this because traditionally in homeschool you pick your textbooks and set up your curriculum. In the online programs some will allow you to pick which classes you take but they have set up the curriculum and assignments.

Availability often depends on where you live because different states have different rules on what types of schools are allowed.

I would try contacting a local homeschool group in your area and see if they have any ideas for you.

If you like the idea of a virtual charter public school then just search "virtual charter schools" and you will get a list on google to see what is available.

  5. Short and sweet - Your State Board of Education will send you a list of FREE public online schools upon request.  An online public school provide computer, internet, classroom teachers (online), and LIFT teachers (online) that walk the kids through their lessons, leaving you to live a normal life without the extra stress and responsibility of homeschooling.  Your child stays at home, and still attends public school, he or she just does it online, which is also less stressful for them because online schools can adjust his or her classes so that they meet their individual needs or pace.

  6. It really depends on what program you use.  If there is a virtual school in your state, you can use that for free.
