I'm an American who wishes to study politics, law, or history. can anyone give me some information. If I go to school in Ireland I plan on living there. any information about other schools such as maynooth, uc-cork, galway, u-ulster, and Queens University Belfast would also be a big help. the person who writes the most gets points.

  1. My girlfriend came over to study in Ireland from USC while I was still in school at UC Cork. She went to the University of Limerick, and really enjoyed it.

Apparently, the University of Limerick is the most welcoming of American students, their schedule and curriculum follow that of American schools rather than Irish schools. For their website go to www.ul.ie. They have a pretty advanced politics degree, well respected within the European Community, particular in the chambers of the European Union with their close relationship for Former European President Pat Cox.

To study law, you will have to go to Blackrock in Dublin, but that requires that you speak Gaelic. Every student wanting to apply to Blackrock must pass a Gaelic language test. But for you to do an undergrad degree in law, Trinity College is your best bet, with the most respected degree. Same applies for history. Trinity's website is www.tcd.ie. UC-Cork and UC-Galway are also pretty decent schools, but if you want the best education, Trinity is the place to go.

Unless you get there on an Erasmus program, you will be paying plenty to study here. To apply for Erasmus, go to www.esn.org. You are talking undergraduate fees of $6,000 - 20,000, and postgraduate fees of $10,000 - 22,000 for international students in Ireland.

For application to the school you want to go, just visit their website and complete the application. Make sure you follow up on it over the phone and build some rapport with whoever you are talking to, so they ensure that your application gets through with the best light shinning over it! My advise - for the best education and most fun social life - go to Trinity. Good school in a fun town! Good luck with it, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
