Question:

Information on the Daughters of America (DOA)?

My great-grandmother was a member of the Daughters of America No. 111, Clairton, Pennsylvania. I've found a little information about the organization, but not much. I'd like to know if they are still in existence, and if so, if there is some way to contact them. Because they were an anti-immigrant organization, I wonder too if they required proof of American lineage, like the Daughters of the American Revolution. Any help would be appreciated.

  1. My first inclination would be to contact the Gen. Society (assuming there is one) in Clairton, PA. And, the Catholic Church there; appears to be connected with the Church..

I did a Yahoo search, there are many sites listed...those also might be of help and/or interest.

The organization is yet in existence and quite active.

  2. If you are talking about Catholic Daughters of America.  It would be CDA not DOA. However, no way was the CDA anti immigrant.

  3. Hi,

I am a member of the DAUGHTERS of the AMERICAN REVOLUTION (the "D. A. R. ") and I thought I had heard of just about every lineage society that is still active. The one you name does not ring a bell.

Here's a great web site that lists hereditary societies. If you can't find what you are looking for on this list, maybe e-mailing the administration about your question will help.

    http://www.hereditary.us/list_a.htm

If you need information about the D.A.R.  we have a national web site:

    www.dar.org

    I hope this helps.
