Inge Dekker and Damien Joly capture gold medals – Swimming news
Inge Dekker of Netherlands and Damien Joly of France captured gold medals in the events of Women’s 50m butterfly and Men’s 1500m freestyle on last day of the 2013 French Open Nationals Championship in Vichy on Sunday, July 7.
Both swimmers devastated hopes of their competitors in their respective events as they went full rampant in the playoffs for the titles. With their alluring efforts, they faced no trouble from their opponents and transpired on the finishing end for gold
medal.
Dekker remained more than half a body length lead over his closest competitor and emerged on the finishing wall for first position with the timing of 25.95 seconds. Her fastest effort was only 0.02 seconds away from the sixth best time of the season, 25.93
seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Britta Steffen of Germany, who was 0.59 seconds slower from overpowering his preceding finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 26.54 seconds.
Third position of the race was secured by Amit Ivry of Israel, who was almost 0.19 seconds slower and emerged on the finishing wall for bronze medal by producing an effort of 26.73 seconds.
On the other hand, the arena witnessed commendable form of Joly in the distant freestyle discipline. He showed no mercy to his challengers in the 1500m race and cruised his way towards the finishing end for the title.
With his impeccable efforts, he was comfortably ahead of his toughest challenger and occupied the gold medal with the timing of 15 minutes and 28.82 seconds.
His gold finish was followed by Enzo Vial Collet of France, who remained 2.08 seconds slower from his former finisher and emerged on the finishing end by producing a time of 15 minutes and 30.64 seconds.
Third spot of the race was obtained by Nathan Capp, who secured bronze medal of the race by posting a time of 15 minutes and 30.90 seconds.
In addition, Dekker was extremely delighted with her top finish while the position holders received medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the event.
