Inge Dekker claims Women’s 50m freestyle gold: Day two – 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy, Brazil
Inge Dekker of FIAT/MINAS/MG claimed the gold medal of Women’s 50m freestyle final on the second day of the 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy on August 31, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Dekker displayed her exhaustive efforts in the single-lap freestyle event, as she posted a top ranked time of 25.36 seconds for the gold medal. Her gold winning effort placed Dekker 1.63 seconds behind the world record of 23.73 seconds, made by Britta Steffen
of Germany at the 2009 Rome World Championships. Furthermore, she was also 0.97 seconds slower than the championship mark of 24.39 seconds, set by Inge De Bruijn of CRVG/RJ in 2000.
The champion was followed by Flavia Delaroli-Cazziolato of ECP/SABESP, who stayed only 0.15 seconds slower than Dekker and reached the podium for silver medal by reporting in a time of 25.51 seconds. Delaroli-Cazziolato was in a lead of just 0.21 seconds
over her closest competitor, Alessandra Marchioro of C.CURITIBANO/PR, who stepped on the podium for bronze medal with a timing of 25.72 seconds.
Dekker presented a beautiful swim in the 50m freestyle to capture the title of the event. Her quickest dive placed her marginally ahead of her fellow swimmers, while she cruised her way towards the finishing wall by keeping her rivals at bay. The 26-year-old
Dekker easily touched out her strongest rival, Delaroli-Cazziolato on the finishing wall and claimed the top position in the event.
Nevertheless, the battle was not among the top finishers, as Daynara Ferreira Paula of FIAT/MINAS was only 0.02 seconds slower than the third position holder and posted a time of 25.74 seconds. Similarly, Delaroli-Cazziolato’s team-member, Michelle Lenhardt
was sighted as the sixth fastest swimmer of the event, as she remained just 0.26 seconds away from her preceding swimmer and clocked a time of 26.00 seconds.
Lenhardt was trailed by Roberta Kamila Albino of PRAIA CLUBE, as she was just 0.08 seconds slower than her former finisher and posted a time of 26.08 seconds for the sixth finest spot. Likewise, Albino was in a slightest lead of just 0.01 seconds over Carolina
Bergamaschi of ECP/SABESP, who ended up seventh in a time of 26.09 seconds. The last spot of the race was obtained by Bergamaschi’s team-member, Flavia B F De Lacerda, who stayed 0.10 seconds behind her and concluded her swim in a time of 26.19 seconds.
In addition, the session ended after the dazzling efforts of all competitors, while the winners were invited on the medal rostrum for their incredible efforts after the meet’s completion.
