Inge Dekker conquers Women’s 50m butterfly semi-finals: Day five - 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy
Inge Dekker of Fiat/Minas/MG conquered the semi-finals of Women’s 50m butterfly on the fifth day of the continued 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy on September 3, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Dekker occupied the fastest berth into the final rounds by submitting a top finest time of 27.16 seconds. Her fastest qualification time placed her 0.13 seconds ahead of her following swimmer, Bruna Caroline Lemos Rocha of ECP/SABESP, who acquired second
fastest spot of the swim by reporting in a time of 27.29 seconds. Lemos was trailed by her closest competitor and team-member, Daniele Paoli Jesus, who remained just 0.03 seconds slower from Rocha and ended her swim in a third finest time of 27.32 seconds.
Paoli Jesus was followed by Dandara Mendes Antonio of FIAT/MINAS, who stayed only 0.15 seconds behind her preceding swimmer and clocked a fourth fastest qualification time of 27.47 seconds. With her fourth fastest effort, she was just 0.02 seconds faster
than her strongest rival and team-member, Daynara Ferreira Paula, who completed her single-lap butterfly swim in a fifth fastest time of 27.49 seconds.
Paula was chased by Roberta Kamila Albino of PRAIA CLUBE, who was just 0.65 seconds away from Antonio and reported in a sixth best qualification time of 28.14 seconds. In the meantime, 22-year-old Albino maintained a slightest lead of 0.05 seconds over her
closest rival, Larissa Martins Oliveira of ECP/SABESP, who concluded her one-lap sprint in a seventh fastest time of 28.19 seconds.
Likewise, Oliveira was trailed by Dekker's team-mate, Kimberly Vandenberg, who earned final qualification spot of the swim by escaping her following swimmer, Carolina B Athayde on the finishing wall, with a timing of 28.34 seconds. Vandenberg remained 0.15
seconds slower than her former finisher but stayed 0.05 seconds faster than from Athayde and settled as the eighth fastest swimmer to enter the final round.
Furthermore, the arena was contented with the breath-taking efforts of all qualifying swimmers, while these athletes will contest each other in the final round to secure a podium finish.
