Inge Dekker occupies Women’s 50m butterfly title: Day one – 2012 National Open of Montpellier
World champion, Inge Dekker of Netherlands served notice of her talent by occupying gold medal of the Women’s 50m butterfly on initial day of the 2012 National Open of Montpellier on February 3.
The 26-year-old Dekker demonstrated her gruelling efforts in the long course butterfly discipline and outperformed her competitors for gold medal of the event.
She faced strong resistance from her following challengers, Camille Muffat and Beryl Gastaldello of France, but managed to overwhelm them on the finishing end for gold medal.
Dekker’s quickest response to the start placed her slightly ahead of her fellow swimmers in the initial fifteen metres of the race. With her continued efforts, she kept her rivals at a marginal bay throughout the race and proved her mettle for the gold spot by surpassing their efforts in the final half.
Dekker won gold medals of the 50m butterfly and 4*100m freestyle relay at the 2011 Shanghai World Championships. She also captured a gold medal in the 4*100m freestyle relay at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games while accomplished a bronze in the 4*100m freestyle at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
With her persistent efforts, Dekker remained dominant over her competitors and grabbed the title by completing her swim in a fastest time of 26.39 seconds. Her nerve-wrecking performance placed her nearly half body length ahead of her subsequent swimmer, Muffat, who earned second position of the event.
Muffat remained 0.33 seconds behind the gold medallist and concluded her race in a second finest time of 26.72 seconds for silver medal. She was trailed by her team-member, Gastaldello, who stayed 0.65 seconds slower from her and secured third fastest spot of the event by submitting an effort of 27.37 seconds.
The arena went wild with the breathtaking performances of world-class players in the opening swim of the tournament while winners received a huge round of applause from the audience for their undisputed efforts.
Furthermore, the position holders were called upon the victory stand for their noteworthy struggles in the butterfly discipline whereas the session ended after the completion of all scheduled events in Men and Women’s corner.
