Inge Dekker secures Women’s 100m butterfly gold: Day one - 2012 Sette Colli Meet, Italy
Inge Dekker of Netherlands secured gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly on opening day of the 2012 Sette Colli Meet in Rome, Italy on Thursday, June 14.
The 26-year-old Dekker demonstrated her stupendous efforts in the double lap butterfly discipline as she made her way to the finishing end for the title of the discipline.
She faced tough battle from Sarah Sjoestrom of Sweden in the double lap event but with her fascinating efforts, she managed to edge her out over the finishing end for gold medal.
Dekker completed her race in a wonderful timing of 58.25 seconds for gold medal. She was followed by Sjoestrom, who stayed 0.32 seconds apart and cruised her way towards the finishing end with the timing of 58.57 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Sjoestrom’s teammate, Martina Granstroem, who was 0.24 seconds apart and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 58.81 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Otylia Jedrzejczak of Poland, who was just 0.01 seconds slower from the bronze medallist and posted an effort of 58.82 seconds.
Jedrzejczak was trailed by Emilia Pikkarainen of Finland, who remained 0.20 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and tapped the finishing wall for fifth position by submitting a time of 59.02 seconds.
Similarly, Pikkarainen was trailed by Jeanette Ottesen Denmark, who was 0.08 seconds behind and made her way to the finishing end as sixth finest swimmer by submitting a time of 59.10 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Silvia Di Pietro of Italy, who remained 0.09 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and posted a time of 59.19 seconds.
Di Pietro was chased by Yuka Kato of Japan, who failed to make a considerably improvement in her pace and finished eighth in the discipline by reporting a time of 59.23 seconds.
The crowd admired notable efforts of all contestants in the playoff of the butterfly events whereas the position holders collected medals and accolades for their remarkable sprints. In addition, Dekker also expressed happiness over her victory on first day of the championship.
