Inge Dekker secures gold medal in Women’s 50m butterfly - 2011 Paris Open Swimming Championships
The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games gold medallist, Inge Dekker, occupied the gold medal of Women’s 50m butterfly on the second day of the 2011 Paris Open Swimming Championships.
Paris Open is an international swimming meet which is of phenomenal importance, as it paves way for the upcoming 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, this July.
Dekker of Netherlands claimed the title of the 50m butterfly event in an astonishing time of 25.89 seconds. She was followed by Melanie Henique, who completed her swim in the second fastest time and won the silver medal of the event in a time of 26.23 seconds. The third spot on the victory stand was secured by Estonia’s Triin Aljand, who touched the wall for bronze medal, by clocking a stupendous effort of 26.26 seconds.
The champion won the gold medal in the 4*100m freestyle at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, whereas, she is also the bronze medallist of the same relay event at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.
In addition, the gold medallist seemed confident about the title from the start of the race, where she displayed her gruelling efforts in front of the arena and overwhelmed the efforts of her fellow swimmers.
Dandara Antonio of Brazil appeared on the finishing wall as the fourth fastest swimmer, by finishing her swim in a timing of 26.80 seconds. She was 0.13 seconds away from her closest rival, Angela Tavernier of France Universitaire, who settled on the finishing wall as the fifth fastest swimmer by clocking a time of 26.93 seconds.
Irina Bespalova of Russia completed her swim in the sixth place, by touching the wall in a time of 27.52 seconds. She was followed by Daynara Paula of Brazil and Sina Sutter of Germany, who touched the wall for seventh and eighth fastest spots, with timings of 27.72 and 27.81 seconds, respectively.
Dekker was delighted with her irresistible effort at this international meet and is hopeful of putting up a good show at the important championship in China, upcoming July.
