Inge Dekker upsets Jeanette-Ottesen Gray in Women’s 100m butterfly – FINA Swimming World Cup
Inge Dekker of Netherlands occupied gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly on day one of the sixth stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Beijing, China on Friday, November 2.
The Dutch swimmer faced no difficulty in snaring the title of the 100m discipline as she gained a marginal lead over her opponents in the start.
With her impeccable pace, Dekker remained half a body length ahead of her toughest challenger as she hit the wall for the title with the timing of 57.62 seconds.
The champion was followed by Jeanette-Ottesen Gray of Denmark, who stayed 0.39 seconds slower from her and surfaced on the wall for silver medal by reporting a time of 58.01 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Yufei Zhang, who suffered a loss of only 0.04 seconds from her preceding swimmer and touched the wall for bronze medal with a timing of 58.05 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the race was obtained by Li Tao of Singapore, who was 0.02 seconds slower from securing her spot on the podium and tapped the wall with a timing of 58.07 seconds.
Similarly, Tao was traced by Zige Liu of China, who stayed 0.80 seconds slower and surfaced on the wall as fifth best finisher with an effort of 58.87 seconds for fifth position.
Liu was chased by Xinyi Chen, who was 0.13 seconds slower from her former finisher and made her way towards the wall for sixth position by clocking a time of 59.00 seconds.
Chen was trailed by Sishi Zhang, who was 1.30 seconds away from upsetting her former finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 00.30 seconds for seventh place.
Last position of the swim was secured by Siyu Liu, who was half a body length slower from her foregoing finisher and settled on the wall as eighth position holder with a timing of 1 minute and 00.77 seconds.
In addition, Dekker was extremely pleased with her gold finish in the tournament and articulated her desire of achieving the same at superior levels of swimming.
