Inge Dekker wins Women’s 50m butterfly crown: Day seven – 2011 FINA World Championships
Netherlands’ Inge Dekker mesmerised the arena with her sparkling splash on day seven of the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, on Saturday, July 30.
The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 50m butterfly final, where Dekker dominated the entire race effortlessly and won her second title of the current edition of the championship with a sterling time of 25.71 seconds. Earlier, she snagged the gold
medal in the Women’s 4x100m freestyle meet.
Previously, Dekker snared the gold medal in the Women’s 4x100m freestyle final at the 2006 edition of the World Championships, in Shanghai. In addition, she won two gold medals in the 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle categories at the 2008 edition of the meet,
in Manchester.
Moreover, Inge grabbed one gold medal each in the 4x100m freestyle meet in both the 2009 and 2010 editions of the championships, in Rome and Dubai, respectively. Besides, she has won one gold medal in the 2008 Olympic Games, in Beijing. Further, she won
12 gold medals at the European Championships during the period of 2004-2009.
With her scintillating performance in the respective meet, Dekker looks really confident and excited to win more gold medals at next year Olympic Games, in London.
Meanwhile, Therese Alshammar of Sweden took home the silver medal with a victorious time of 25.76 seconds. Alshammar has already won the gold medal in the Women’s 50m freestyle meet in the current edition of championships.
Melanie Henique of France snared the bronze medal with an impressive time of 25.86 seconds, whereas, Ying Lu of China earned the fourth place with a time of 25.87 seconds. Sarah Sjoestroem snatched the fifth spot in 25.87 seconds, while Yuka Kato finished
sixth after she ended her swim in a time of 26.02 seconds.
Dana Vollmer settled seventh in 26.06 seconds. Vollmer also won two gold medals in the Women’s 100m butterfly and 4x100m medley races in the current edition of the championships. Marieke Guehrer of Australia picked the eighth place after she touched the
finishing wall in a time of 26.21 seconds.
