Inglorious and Marketing Mix to lock horns again in the Nassau Stakes at Woodbine
The Ontario bred 4-year-old filly, Inglorious, after making her 2012 debut at Keeneland in an allowance test over a mile on 11 April, 2012, finished second to winner, Marketing Mix, will look to get back to winning ways at Woodbine, where she has only lost
once in 6 starts.
Donver Stable’s Inglorious will make her return to the Woodbine race course for the Canadian Grade 2, $300,000 Nassau Stakes over the venue’s turf course on which she has never run before on 2 June, 2012.
Bred in Ontario by Arosa Farms, Inglorious strung together an awesome winning streak last year over at Woodbine’s All-Weather track, and scored a hat-trick which included Woodbine Oaks and the Queen’s Plate.
Trained by Josie Carroll, Inglorious will make her first start at Woodbine since finishing third to winner, Smart Sting, in the Grade 3 Selene Stakes last year on 25 September.
Inglorious made her turf debut in an allowance test at Keeneland this year, where Marketing Mix downed her by a margin of 1 ¼ lengths, but Inglorious will have a second say on that when she meets Marketing Mix in the Nassau Stakes in two days time.
The daughter of Hennessy is capable of a strong return, and jockey Luis Contreras, who has been aboard the filly in her last six starts is expecting a much better performance from Inglorious in the Nassau Stakes.
“She is the type of horse you dream of riding,” said Contreras, who first teamed with the daughter of Hennessy in winning the La Lorgnette Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on the Woodbine poly track last May. “She always tries, always gives you everything she has.
She’s special.”
Contreras won the last year’s Nassau Stakes aboard the now-retired, Bay to Bay, and he will be itching to get back in the race under a much capable Inglorious.
Marketing Mix after defeating Inglorious was sent as the favourite to win the Grade 1 Distaff Turf Mile, but fell short to finish fourth at Churchill Downs on 5 May, 2012.
The Thomas Proctor trained 4-year-old filly  will try to get back on winning ways, as she had won 4 of her five starts prior to the Distaff Turf Mile defeat.
