Inglorious ready for a stiff competition that awaits her at Saratoga in the Alabama Stakes
Josie Carroll with owners, Vern and Donna Dubinsky, paid a visit to Saratoga after two long years, and the last time they were here they won the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes with their speedy filly, Careless Jewel.
The trio has returned to Saratoga after a long layoff but this time around they have a little more chance to win the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes than they had 2 years back, because they have Inglorious with them, the Queen’s Plate winner.
They will take another shot at the prestigious August 20th Saratoga feature race for 3-year-old fillies.
The Queen’s Plate winner is coming off a fantastic win against the males at Woodbine on 26 June, 2011.
The race was run over a classic distance of 1 ¼ miles over synthetic surface under jockey L Contreras, with Inglorious downing rivals like Pender Harbour and Hippolytus.
The daughter of Hennessy out of Noble Strike by Smart Strike has had her share of synthetic surface races recently, but if she has to boost her career, the 3-year-old filly has to prove that she is more than a synthetic surface runner.
With competition like Plum Pretty and It’s Tricky, who are the closest to challenge Inglorious, because they too have won Grade 1 races. Then we also have Grade 2 winners participating In the Alabama Stakes Royal Delta and St. John’s River fall in that category.
Hence, Inglorious would have a stiff competition in the 131st running of the Alabama Stakes.
It was expected that trainer Tony Dutrow would unleash his turf specialist, Pinch Pie, in the Alabama Stakes, and he was a definite entrant in the race but he will not be contesting for the $500,000 purse.
Prior to the Queen’s Plate win at Woodbine, Inglorious won her previous two races over at a distance of 1 1/16 miles and 1 1/8 miles, both on synthetic surfaces.
He first win was over 1 1/16 miles in the La Lorgnette Stakes at Woodbine on 15 May and second win in the Woodbine Oaks at Woodbine on 5 June.
Inglorious is 5 of 5 at Woodbine and will break from stall 6 under jockey L Contreras, who has ridden the filly 3 times and won 3 times, in the Alabama Stakes.
