Ingo Kindervater, Johannes Schoettler fail to rise in opening round of Singapore Open 2012
Germany’s prime Doubles team Ingo Kindervater-Johannes Schoettler gave a shock to their supporters when they knelt down against low ranked Kah Ming Chooi-Yao Han Ow in first round of Li Ning Singapore Open on June 20, 2012.
World Number 20 duo could not switch on the best and lost with 21-14, 10-21 and 21-13 scores after a futile exercise of 45 minutes.
The victorious Malaysian couple prevailed in opening and concluding stage of the battle to setup a pre quarter-final clash with Hiroyuki Endo-Kenichi Hayakawa of Japan.
Kah Ming and Yao Han, who currently hold 108th position in world rankings, played flawless badminton in very opening game and clinched vital match point.
They made their intentions clear by reaching at 7-2 in no time and then kept dictating their rivals until mid-game break. They finished first half by registering a respectable total of 11-6.
This five-point lead gave their confidence a real boost and they utilised that poise in later part of game also.
After one-minute break, they unleashed flurry of masterly crafted strokes and gathered five points in a row. These five consecutive rallies proved decisive and they wrapped this segment with 21-14 score on the board.
Meanwhile, the German campaigners also woke up after finding themselves one down. They saved their honour to some extent by winning second set of the match.
Men’s Doubles experts Ingo Kindervater and Johannes Schoettler remained at lower end in the beginning but then they managed to rise on their toes after 3-5. They dominated in six uninterrupted rallies and finished first half of the set with 11-6 margin.
Later part of the game saw them making swift progress as they raised their total to 15-8. They magnified the impact by winning six out of last eight points in final figure of 21-10.
However, the Malaysian contestants performed beyond expectations in the decider. They came back from nowhere and snatched the honour.
Kah Ming and Yao Han kept trailing behind until 6-10 but then five back-to-back points tipped the scale in their favour.
They placed a decent margin of 11-10 before the break and then sealed a splendid victory with admirable result of 21-13.
