well i had hernia surgery friday and everything has gone fine besides some pain, i've been taking the pain pills and well they have backed me up. I've been eating alot of fiber; mini-wheats, fruits, veggies, prunes, and even prune juice. I've even taken laxatives and stool softener i still can't go. What do you recommend?

Also there is alot of redness around the spot of the surgery and well actually part of my uhh...shaft is swollen, is that normal?

  1. After having inguinal hernia redness around the spot of the surgery is normal. Did you have Open Hernia Repair or Laparoscopic Hernia repair. Depending on which procedure you went through; the side affects will vary.  Pain is also normal with any hernia operation, this will be mostly be up to first three days.  Do not left anything heavy and you should be fine but make sure to start moving day after the surgery.

But you said your shaft is swollen if you have problem urinating after your hernia surgery; i would recommend for you to call your doctor right away.
