Ingvild Snildal pockets Women’s 50m butterfly gold: Day four - 2011 Norway Long Course Championships
Ingvild Snildal pocketed the gold medal of the Women’s 50m butterfly event, on the final day of the 2011 Long Course Championships. The Norwegian Championships is a four-day national competition, which provides an opportunity to local swimmers to defend their national titles.
Snildal of Asker Sk won the title of the event in a sterling time of 27.04 seconds. Her time was slightly away from her closest competitor, Katharina Stiberg of Bjerkvik SK, who remained just 0.17 seconds slower and touched the wall for silver medal, with a wonderful timing of 27.21 seconds. The third spot on the podium was secured by Bryndis Run Hansen of BS Astveit, who remained only 0.64 seconds slower from the silver medallist and concluded her swim in a third fastest time of 27.85 seconds.
The champion was evidently strong from the starting blocks, where she entered the pool with her quickest dive and gained a slight advantage over her fellow swimmers. Her fast strokes and extraordinary swimming skills enabled her to claim the national title of the 50m butterfly event, as she was the first swimmer to appear on the finishing wall.
The fourth position of the one-lap event was secured by Monica W. Johannessen, who remained only 0.05 seconds away from the bronze medallist and clocked a time of 27.90 seconds. Snildal’s team-member, Mette Mellbye Larsen completed her sprint in the fifth best place, as she reported on the finishing wall in a time of 28.33 seconds. She was followed by Victoria Rung of Madla SK, who remained only 0.14 seconds slower than Larsen and secured the sixth position with a timing of 28.47 seconds.
Henriette Brekke of Stavanger SC was the seventh fastest swimmer to conclude her single lap sprint, as she finished her swim in a time of 28.48 seconds. Marthe Berg Sørensen of Madla SK was the last swimmer to end her swim on eight position, as she reported in a time of 28.49 seconds.
