Inherit the Gold training for his comeback race, and his pointed to the Empire Classic at Belmont Park
Trained by James Hooper for owner Susanne Hooper and Glas-Tipp Stable, the 5-year-old gelding, Inherit the Gold, has been laying low since appearing at Belmont Park to run in the One Count on 15 May, 2011.
He finished third in that race, and he is back in training recently and the older horse’s connections are looking to run him in the $200,000 Empire Classic at Belmont Park.
He will also be aiming to go for the New York bred horse of the year title, after a very successful 2011 season.
In the season, Inherit the Gold has run in 6 races altogether, and has gone on to win four races on the trot.
Technically, he brought his good form in the season since his last race in 2010, and he was unbeaten since 16 December, 2010 to 4 February, 2011, and in that time he participated in five races, winning all of them.
All of these wins came at Aqueduct race course, under jockey E Castro, distances ranging from 1 mile, 1 mile 70 yards to 1 1/8 miles, all on dirt.
After his Grade 3 win in the Excelsior, Inherit the Gold lost his way a bit and finished seventh in another Grade 3 race, the Charles Town Classic at Charles Town on 16 April, 2011, over his favoured distance of 1 1/8 miles.
Inherit the Gold, after the Charles Town defeat, returned to Belmont Park after exactly a year to run in the One Count, where he finished third.
Now on the same track, Inherit the Gold will be looking to get back on winning ways in next month’s Empire Classic.
After some time off, Inherit the Gold returned to the track to train for his next racing endeavour.
After a week of jogging, Inherit the Gold was pulled out of Clare Court training track at Saratoga, and began jogging at the Oklahoma track on 9 September, 2011.
Following the jogging, Inherit the Gold will start galloping on 11 September, and from then forward will go into hardcore training of six weeks ahead of the Belmont Park feature race.
