If a family are aware of an inheritance that they are entitle in Puerto Rico, do they have the right to know the amount or is these kept secret until it is settle? For example, family members or lawyers are asking for a copy of birth certificate and any other forms to prove your identity, do you have the right to know the amount? If anyone can point me to a site that gives specific rules on this matter I would really appreciate it very much.

  1. It sounds like you might need a lawyer. If you have a lawyer already ask them.

  2. Yes, according to PR laws you can ask to know the  inheritance value (or amount of debts).  You can even refuse to accept the inheritance.

  3. I've read the responses and you've gotten good advice, go and get yourself a competent Lawyer, and exercise your right

  4. Unless you can speak FLUENT Spanish, then you need to hire a lawyer, a Puerto Rican lawyer....  better yet... GO THERE and get things settled... they do legal matters differently in the Caribbean than in Amerika

  5. Here in Puerto Rico it's all on who you know.  Get yourself a lawyer in Puerto Rico to check into it.  They all speak english, if you need.  We live in PR and use lawyers anytime we have trouble find something out legally or need a permit, and they get it done fast.  They are very reasonably cheap as well.
