Inigo Cervantes-Huegun, Maxime Authom make it to the main draw – 2011 ORBETELLO Challenger Series
Spaniard Inigo Cervantes-Huegun stunned third seeded Marco Trungelliti of Argentine 6-4, 7-6 (2) on Sunday to book a first round berth at the 2011 ORBETELLO Challenger Series in Orbetello, Italy.
The contest started on an extremely competitive note as both men gave their hundred per cent to get the psychological advantage early on in the opening set. Several serve breaks were traded and some crafty tennis was displayed
by the contestants in the first set as a nail biting encounter was witnessed. Inigo Cervantes-Huegun looked in more control of his game and pocketed the opener with a big forehand winner down the line to take the set score lead 1-0.
The second set proved to be as exciting as both players showed remarkable temperament and determination to force it into a tie-breaker. The 21-year-old Spaniard used his ferocious forehands and backhands shots to great success
and forced errors from his opponent. He looked to be in his comfort zone at the baseline as he created difficult angles for Trungelliti to cope with.
Marci Trungelliti of Argentina, who is ranked 319th in the ATP world rankings, was gutted with his ordinary effort. It will be fair to say that he had his chances but his inability to play the big points well played
a big part in his defeat against a quality player. He will be looking to improve his game play before he return to the ATP tour.
Cervantes-Huegun, who is the number six seed at the qualification tournament, has been giving decent results on the tour for the last few months. He now looks in great form ahead of his first round clash in the final round of the
tournament starting from Monday. Cervantes-Huegun would have taken a lot of confidence from his win and will be hopeful for his first career triumph at the clay courts of Orbetello.
In another match number five seed Maxime Authom of Belgium defeated top seeded Spaniard Gerard Granollers 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 to book her place in the main draw of the ATP Challenger tournament. Authom played very aggressively right
from the start of the match and caused all sorts of problems for an opponent ranked much higher than him.
He took the first set with a double serve break and then established a firm grip over the contest in the third set by not allowing his opponent any kind of room to play his game. The 24-year-old used his half of the court very
effectively and pushed Granollers right back to the baseline from where he had very few answers.
