Inigo Cervantes-Huegun upsets Guillermo Olaso in the second round – Wuhai Challenger 2011
A major upset for the local tennis fans present at Wuhai, China, where the second seeded Spaniard, Guillermo Olaso crashed out of the second round of Wuhai Challenger, at the hands of his unseeded fellow compatriot, Inigo Cervantes-Huegun,
on Wednesday.
The second seeded Spaniard hung in the contest for one hour and forth four minutes before he finally succumbed in the third set 6-4, 3-6, 2-6, to let Cervantes-Huegun into the quarter-finals of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals)
Challenger Tour event in Wuhai. The winning Spanish competitor exhibited exceptional hard-court tennis skills to oust the second seeded Olaso from the tournament convincingly.
Cervantes-Huegun dropped the opening set early but made a tremendous recovery from a one-set deficit to reel off the following two sets, stunning everyone by winning the matchup against Olaso. The second seeded Spaniard was off
to a flying start in the opening set and secured 15 first serve points, along with two break point conversions to reach 6-4. Olaso took the opening set comprehensively and it was anticipated that he will continue with his aggression in the rest of the game
as well but went the other way round.
Cervantes-Huegun put breaks to his opponent’s winning momentum in the following set, launching a series of forays to transfer pressure upon him. Two consecutive serve breaks from the Spaniard proved sufficient to drive Olaso out
of the second set at 6-3, levelling the matchup at one-all.
With one set a piece, the third set was anticipated to be a nail biter but Cervantes-Huegun made it a one-sided contest in the end. The unseeded Spaniard proved extremely merciless to Olaso in the final set and reeled off five
straight games to rocket away to 5-1, after breaking his opponent’s serve twice in a row. Cervantes-Huegun closed out victory at 6-2 to move in to the quarter-final draws of Wuhai Challenger, where he will take on the eighth seeded American, Nicholas Monroe
for a place in the semis. Monroe was victorious against the Thai qualifier, Kittipong Wachiramanowong, in the second round of the tournament to meet Cervantes-Huegun in the round of eight.
