Inigo Cervantes downs Matwe Middelkoop in round one – TEAN International Tennis Tournament 2012 CH
Fifth seed, Inigo Cervantes, eased past the local challenger, Matwe Middelkoop, in straight sets at the TEAN International Tennis Tournament 2012 on Tuesday. He juggled up a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory against the Dutch veteran to advance into the round of 16 at this clay court tournament taking place in Alphen aan den Rijn, Netherlands.
The seeded Spaniard displayed tremendous abilities warding off early resistance to overpower Middelkoop. After earning the fame, Cervantes booked a spot in the second round at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event.
The 22-year-old made a poor entry at the Dutch clay courts. He suffered the first blow in the third game and fell at 1-3. However, he not only snatched his break back in the sixth game but held his composure to drag the set to a tie-breaker. Cervantes jumped to a 4-2 lead in it before closing out the opener with a 7-6(4) win.
Cervantes kept momentum sailing into the second set. He held his opening serve to level the scores at 1-1. The Spaniard continued hammering angled shots and swiped his remaining serves with poise. He got the breakthrough in the ninth game and eventually clicked the set with a 6-4 success.
All in all, Cervantes smashed six aces and clobbered a better first serve share of 55 per cent as opposed to his opponent’s 52 per cent. He also amazingly marked 39 out of 45 points on it and finished the deal with 89 points. The Spaniard tremendously dusted away six out of seven breakpoints he came across and capitalised on two out of eight break chances.
Cervantes will square off against his compatriot, Ivan Navarro, who battled past the local wild card entrant, Nick Van Der Meer, in a three-set thriller to set up this meeting.
The German challenger, Simon Greul eased past France’s Nicolas Devilder in straight sets to join Cervantes. He needed one hour and three minutes to overpower his opponent and advance at this event. Gruel lost his serve once but cashed in four out of 10 break chances to register a 6-4, 6- 3 score line.
