Inis Meain to win through the beating in the www.thetote.com Kingdom Gold Cup Handicap
Even though the five-year-old racing sensation, Inis Meain, has been enjoying the season by celebrating some significant successes during the summer, he is up against some tough competition in the www.thetote.com Kingdom Gold Cup Handicap on Thursday, 30th August at Killarney over a mile and three furlongs. The €22,750 prize money has attracted nine three-year and above runners.
Two of the entries among the candidates, I Have A Dream and Livia Galilei, can post a hat-trick today if either of them gets to become the first one to race through the wire. The former, I Have A Dream, is unbeaten through the two outings of the career.
The American bay gelding has raced eleven times during the 2012 campaign and made it a point to improve through the outings. The Denis Gerard Hogan trained raced just once during each of the last two seasons, 2010 and 2011.
His seasonal debut was in the McCarthy Insurance Group 60th Maiden Hurdle on 2nd January, 2012 at Cork over two miles. He ended fourth in the field of nine while the race was won by the favourite entry of the race, Simenon.
The first success of Bernstein’s bay gelding was in the Holy Cross 5YO Maiden Hurdle on 23rd February, 2012 at Thurles over two miles. The five-year-old raced in partnership with jockey, D. G. Hogan and defeated Charming Ways by the massive margin of eleven lengths.
The Liam O’Kelly owned crushed the competition in the Michael Kenny Memorial Apprentice Handicap on 16th July, 2012 at Killarney over a mile and three furlongs. He defeated the most favoured candidate of the race, Little Green, by the margin of 4 ¾ lengths while riding with jockey, Ronan Whelan.
The next winning stop for the five-year-old bay gelding was in the Leopardstown Apprentice Handicap on 19th July, 2012 at Leopardstown over a mile and two furlongs.
Entered as the favourite, he edged past Regal Tramp, by the margin of 4 ¼ lengths.
Qualifying as the runner-up in the IRFU Charitable Trust Handicap on 2nd August, 2012 at Galway over a mile and four furlongs, killed the chances of striking a hat-trick.
Inis Meain had his most recent success in the Guinness Handicap (Premier Handicap) on 3rd August, 2012 at Galway over a mile and four furlongs.
