Inis Meain with glued gaze on the success in the Leopardstown Apprentice Handicap
The most celebrated entry for the Leopardstown Apprentice Handicap is the five-year-old, Inis Meain. The mile and two furlong race will witness the participation of eight other three-year-old and above runners on Thursday, 19th July at Leopardstown.
The prize money set for the race is €5,520.
Bernstein’s five-year-old bay gelding raced eight times during the season out of which he has won twice. The five-year-old cracked into the new season on 2nd January in the McCarthy Insurance Group 60th Maiden Hurdle at the Cork race
course over two miles.
He ended fourth as the race was won by the favourite entry, Simenon, on the track of nine. He was successful in clearing his maiden by almost dominating the track throughout the race. By four furlongs out, the race had its way already steered for the winner,
he headed front through the last three furlongs of the race and defeated the runner-up, Party Rock, by a staggering twenty-three lengths.
The first success of the Denis Gerard Hogan trained was on 23rd February in the Holy Cross 5YO Maiden Hurdle at Thurles over two miles. On the track of ten hurdles, the D. G. Hogan ridden was the most prominent entry on the track of twelve.
The American bay gelding was already on his terms when there were still six more furlongs to be raced over. He compromised a bit on his pace and by the time the last two furlongs were to go, the Liam O’Kelly owned fell victim to a mistake. Despite the drawbacks,
the bay gelding did bounce back and went through the wire pretty easily with the margin of eleven lengths.
Qualifying as the runner-up of the race was, Charming Ways.
Until yet his final and second success of the season was in the Michael Kenny Memorial Apprentice Handicap on 16th July, 2012 at the Killarney race course over a mile and three furlongs.
In companionship with jockey, Ronan Whelan, the Castleton Lyons bred won by 4 ¾ lengths. The 4 to 6 entry will be accompanied through the track distance by jockey, Joe Doyle. The duo will take their chances from the second stall.
