Inishowen Nikki races to great finish at Sunderland
A 12-race afternoon at Tetley’s Sunderland Stadium began with a bang as Inishowen Nikki won the first race in excellent fashion. Staked with 3-1 odds before the race, Inishowen Nikki placed first with a 29.25 second finish. She led the run up, and ran away with the victory.
But Inishowen Nikki was not billed as the favourite to win. Odds makers staked Sambeth Tom as the even-odds favourite before the race, but he ended up with a disappointing fifth-place result.
Broomhill Bella (4-1) placed second, finishing the race in 30.05, 10 lengths behind Inishowen Nikki. She bumped third, and managed to recover to take second. Behind her by only ¾ lengths was Mays Lecaro (10-1), whose time of 30.11 was good for third place.
The number four spot was claimed by Knotmor Ray (10-1), who was a head behind third place with a finishing time of 30.12. Favourite Sambeth Tom took fifth in 30.20, which put him a single length out of fourth place.
Finishing at the bottom of the standings was Mays Model (14-1), who was 2½ lengths Sambeth Tom with a time of 30.40.
Coming into the next race of the afternoon, Tornaroy Tyrur was heavily favoured to win with 6-4 odds. Sure enough, he trumped the competition to take first place 29.09. Tornaroy Tyrur led third, and ran a terrific race, much to the delight of the racing fans in attendance.
Hooking a second-place finish was Fishermans Girl (10-1), who bumped first and ran on to finish the race in 29.39, which was 3¾ lengths behind the winner.
Third place went to Central Glory (4-1), who was just a ½ length behind Fishermans Girl in 29.43.Dingo Star (7-4) was the fourth-place finisher, finishing 3 ½ lengths out of the third position with a time of 29.71.
The timing was not right for Nowisthetime (10-1), who despite having a clear run today, failed to crack the top three. He finished in fifth place, a big seven lengths behind fourth with a time of 30.27.
Bringing up the rear was Mahalia (14-1), who bumped first en route to a last-place time of 30.77. This put her 6¾ lengths out of the number five spot.
