Injured Adam Jones sees comeback season come to an end
Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam 'Pacman' Jones's season has come to an end because of a neck injury. The beleaguered defensive back was hoping this season would mark a comeback after several seasons
filled with off-field troubles, but it was not to be after Jones injured himself in the Bengals 39-32 loss to the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday.
After being examined by doctors it was determined that Jones' injury would require surgery to repair, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis confirmed.
"At some point, Adam will have surgery – once the doctors feel it's time – with the hopes that he'll be back and ready to play next season," Lewis said. "That would be the outlook that he's looking for.
So that's kind of where it is.
"It's a tough thing on him. This is important to him, and I think he's shown that as he's gone about his daily life. This is important, and he's made such huge steps and strides. Maybe this is another
positive that he can use and turn around to help others that come down the line after him."
Jones has had a turbulent career in the NFL mainly due to a myriad of off-field incidents and run-ins with the law which led to him being suspended for the entire 2007 season while playing for the Tennessee
Titans. After a brief comeback with the Dallas Cowboys, Jones was suspended for an alcohol-related incident.
By 2009, no one wanted the troubled cornerback and punt returner until, after a try-out with Cincinnati, the Bengals decided to take a chance on him.
Jones had appeared to have turned his attitude around and had been playing well for the Bengals as their number three corner. He had appeared to have won back the respect of his team-mates before last
Sunday's incident set him back another season.
"We've seen guys that have had distractions and issues away from football come back and rebound and change their life, and he's done a great job," Bengals quarterback
Carson Palmer said. "He's eliminated all the negative things that have happened to him and found a way to be successful on the field.
"To see him at the hospital yesterday, and just the mood he was in and just knowing his season was over, was difficult on him. It's difficult on this team, because he meant a lot to us."
