Injured David Warner may sit out second CB series final – Cricket News Update
Australian opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DA-Warner-c1301’s participation in the second final of the Commonwealth Bank series appears doubtful, after the opener sustained a groin injury which may have him sitting out the match against Sri Lanka on March 6 at the Adelaide Oval.
Warner won the Player of the Match award for scoring an unbeaten 163 off 157 in the first series final against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at the Gabba on March 4, propelling his side to a total of 321. However, he developed groin trouble in the death overs, and was eventually
bowled out by Lankan pacer Dhammika Prasad on the final ball of the last over.
“I turned back for one in the 44th or 45th over and when I came off I did my http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gareth-Berg-c1457 bath and went to walk back out and moving sideways it was very, very sore,” Warner said.
“I was a bit scratchy in the first 50 runs but was conscious after that. I needed to keep one end going and if I was to get a big hundred, the team was surely to get a total in excess of 300 runs.”
Despite his optimistic insistence that he would recover in time for the second series final, Warner appeared to be limping after the post-match press conference, raising doubts about his participation in the upcoming game.
However, his impressive outings had many raving about his abilities, among them Aussie skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120, who praised Warner for his “outstanding” performance at the top. The opening batsman also went on to set two records – his 163 was the sixth-highest ODI
score by an Australian player, and the second-best ODI total ever scored at the Gabba.
Despite the mammoth total set up by the home team, the visitors came close to victory. Their start was shaky, and the top-order was demolished by Aussie pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691 (27) failing to achieve
solid scores. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LD-Chandimal-c1831 faltered at 14.
However, the middle and lower order rose to the occasion, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KMDN-Kulasekara-c1802 (73) contributing substantially to their side’s final total of 306, which, at the end of the match, fell 15 runs short of the target.
