Injured Felipe Contepomi confident of chances in Rugby World Cup encounter against Scotland
Argentinean national Rugby Union team’s 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC) captain, Felipe Contepomi, has expressed his confidence in Los Pumas chances in their upcoming match against Scotland.
Argentina will take on Scotland at Wellington on Sunday, September 25. Argentina find themselves in a must win situation as a defeat in their weekend games will mean curtains for their 2011 RWC campaign.
The currently injured skipper said, “The injury's coming on well so hopefully I'll be fit for Sunday.”
Contepomi has admitted that he is feeling much better and chances are that he’ll lead his side into their do-or-die encounter. Commenting on the whole scenario, he said, “If I'm fit to play, I'll play. If I'm not I'm fully confident in the strategy and that
the players will enter the pitch on Sunday and be competitive. That's what we're looking for - it's not about one player.”
Argentina had previously lost the teams opening game against England, in which Contepomi sustained an injury to his rib, forcing him to miss most of the action during the second-half of that game. Eventually, the player missed out from the Los Pumas last
encounter against Romania.
Contepomi is aware of the importance of Sunday’s game. He said, “It's the most important game because it's the next game - it's one that we have to win and that's it. If we win on Sunday the next most important game in the next four years would be Georgia.”
Contepomi announced that he’ll undergo a fitness test later on in the week, which will help him to assess his situation. He further added that he’ll not take any emotional decision, whose cost eventually has to be borne by the team. He added that he is looking
for team performances instead of looking for individual brilliance.
The 34-year-old Contepomi acknowledged that Scotland is a formidable unit comprising of talented players. He added that the fact that they are currently better ranked them Pumas speaks volume for their quality.
The Stade Francais fly half added that he and his team are training hard to prepare for Sunday’s massive game and they will play at according to their strengths.
