Injured Indian volleyball player Arunima Sinha on her way to improvement – Volleyball news
Arunima Sinha, the injured Indian volleyball player currently admitted in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences is now stable.
Despite the fact that the unfortunate player received a lot injuries and suffered various emotional traumas, her condition is on an uphill climb now.
Arunima was the victim of a tragic incident in which she lost one of her kegs. The player was on board a train, when she found herself surrounded by a group of robbers. The robbers were after the chain that Arunima was wearing.
As she resisted, the robbers pushed Arunima off the train in the scuffle. She fell off and onto the tracks that were adjacent. Most of the injuries that Arunima suffered was not due to the fall she had but because Arunima got hit by another train coming
on the tracks that she fell upon. The collision between this oncoming train caused her to get one of her legs amputated while the other suffered multiple fractures.
Not only that, it was found out recently that Arunima’s spinal cord was also damaged because of the accident. New CT scans performed at the trauma centre of the hospital have revealed that Arunima also has spinal fractures. Fortunately however, these fractures
are not too serious and according to the doctors, can be healed if the player gets bed rest of a period of six weeks.
“These spinal injuries were not detected earlier but thankfully, they can be managed by bed rest of around six weeks. She will not need surgery,” Dr. Sharma said. “We have opened the stump on her amputated left leg, and slightly shortened it to re-shape
the amputation. We have removed all the dead tissues, and the minimal infection that she had developed has been treated.”
Arunima had been shifted to the AIIMS because she had developed an infection in the leg that was amputated. In order to receive better medical care and save Arunima from further physical damage, the move was made.
According to Dr. Sharma, Arunima had developed the infection because she was in an injured condition several hours after the accident. Despite the fact that Arunima will not have her leg back, things seem to be going well for her now.
