Injured Josh Hamilton apologises for his comments about third base Coach Dave Anderson – MLB Update
Texas Rangers’ Josh Hamilton recently suffered a sliding injury in a fixture against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. Hamilton’s comments made about third base coach Dave Anderson, after the game, also sparked controversy as the day closed out.
The All-Star outfielder was locked on third base when an opportunity came up to run home and after having a few words from third base coach Dave Anderson, the player made his run. Unfortunately, his run meant nothing in the end as Victor Martinez tagged
him out and he injured his shoulder on the slide in.
The Rangers’ top hitter was heavily critical of his coach, as he placed the blame of his injury on the veteran management staff. Fortunately, that situation has changed as the player has come out to apologise for his remarks.
"The more I thought about it, the more I understand I have to take responsibility for what happened," Hamilton said. "I know I had a choice not to go and I chose to go. I appreciate Dave has confidence in my ability to think that I could make it."
Even though Anderson pressed for the run, Hamilton ultimately had the decision to oblige to the command. In not doing so, he would not have made a bad impression on anyone in the squad. The other realm of the reality is that the outfielder could have made
it to the home plate without getting injured. Unfortunately, a twist of fate was on the cards this time around.
"I could have taken a different route," Hamilton said. "I could have cooled down before I spoke. The play itself, it could have gone a couple of different ways. I could have made it and not get hurt."
Hamilton’s slide was critically analyzed recently. While many players would have wanted the star to slide in, feet first, Hamilton denounced those claims by pointing out that he was trying to avoid Martinez’s tag. At the time, scoring was more important.
"Not for that situation," Hamilton said. "The object is to try to score."
Whatever the case may be, the Rangers are known for being united and when the 2010 American League Most Valuable Player returns, there are more runs expected from the hard knocker of the ball.
