Injured Lotus Renault GP driver Robert Kubica released from Intensive Care Unit – Formula 1 news
Lotus Renault GP driver Robert Kubica was looking pretty good at the first pre-season test session that took place in Valencia a couple of weeks ago and, it was believed that he would be one of the top runners in the 2011 Formula 1 season if he is provided
with a good car.
Renault provided him with a good car this season but unfortunately, Robert went through a horrific accident during a rally event that took place a couple of days before the second pre-season test session that was expected to take place in Jerez. Kubica almost
lost his right hand as a result of the accident but thanks to the doctors, it is believed that he might be able to recover fully by the end of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The Pole has gone through three major operations up until now and according to some recent reports, it has been revealed that he has been released from the Intensive Care Unit of the Santa Corona Hospital which is near Genoa.
The doctors have revealed that Robert’s condition is satisfactory at the moment and he has been scheduled from the ICU to the rehabilitation department.
According to Eric Boullier, Renault’s team boss, Robert might even return to the team before the end of the 2011 Formula 1 season. However, after looking at his current situation, it seems that it is not possible and even if it is, bringing him back to the
sport would not be the best option as the team would already be so involved in the 2011 Formula 1 season that bringing Kubica in the middle of the season would be quite difficult.
Robert Kubica finished in 8th place in the drivers’ standings behind Nico Rosberg and his performance was beyond amazing keeping in mind that he did not have a very good car as compared to the rest of the top running teams.
He scored a handful of podiums as well and it was believed that he would sign with one of the top running teams. There were rumours that he was offered a spot as a replacement for Felipe Massa of Ferrari as well for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Nevertheless, it seems that Robert might have to wait for a long time before returning to the sport but according to Eric, Renault will accept the Pole with open arms whenever he returns and it would obviously be great to see him back on the track once again
hopefully in the 2012 Formula 1 season.
